We Never Actually Left
Mud Ministry was named after the story in John 9 where Jesus spit on the ground, made some mud, and used it to heal a blind man. Since 1997, we have been telling people, “If God could use mud to make a blind person see, how much more could He use you?”
As time went on, however, we began to think about that mud… before it was mud. It was once just dirt. Yet this ordinary dirt was part of an extraordinary miracle. But why that particular dirt? Simply put, that dirt was resting at the feet of Jesus, available to be used.
So where have we been?
We’ve been doing a lot of what we’ve always been doing. We’ve been giving and serving and loving and praying and waiting. Lots and lots of waiting. Every time we began the process of firing up our next venture, we got the overwhelming sense that it’s not time to go yet—it’s time to prepare. So we prepared. We’ve raised funds and learned skills and attempted to discern what the next generation of Mud would look like.
Is it time to go yet?
No. It’s time to gather. It’s time to gather a small group of us together and pray. Then gather a larger group together and pray. It’s also time for us to gather from you. We want to know about your needs and your projects. We can’t meet them all. We can’t even meet most. We can meet some, though.
I’d like to tell you about two funds.
The first is the Popps Lynch Fund to support children’s camps and sports. Mike believed every child deserved someone in the stands. Through the Popps Lynch Fund, we honor his legacy by supporting kids who need encouragement, opportunity, and a steady presence in their lives.
The second is the Pop Hoover Fund. Pop was our founder’s grandfather. He accepted Christ very late in life and always felt regret that he didn’t get to make a big enough difference in this world. Since 2009, we’ve done projects on four continents and countless states in his honor.
Our last round of these projects focused on kickstarting people’s dream projects. This time around, we’re focusing on people who are already doing awesome things and helping them expand their reach.
Whether you’ve given, served, or attended over the last 30-ish years—thank you! There’s more to come.
